I recently had the chance to volunteer at the Downs Syndrome Buddy Walk. This event brought together Downs Syndrome families who undertook a 3.5km walk followed by the sharing of food and dancing afterwards. Myself and a couple of other girls in the Carmel student leadership team stood around the walk course and cheered people on. After the walk we were greeted by many smiling faces and were able to chat with the participants who talked to us about what they are planning on doing when they are older. I loved every minute of it and completely forgot that I was participating in service hours! If you’re looking for service opportunities like these keep your eyes peeled on your year level google classroom.
