Career education and guidance at Carmel College develops students' ideas from Year 7 through to Year 13 with programmes specific to Year 7 and 8, Year 10 and Year 12. The Year 7 and 8 focus is on a deeper understanding of oneself and an introductory look at the world of work. At Year 10 students look at specific subject interests and their link to career choices. In Year 12 students complete a career module within future skills and each student organises a 3 day work experience placement.
Students are helped to develop clear ideas of their career goals along with the skills to make realistic career decisions and plans. They are encouraged to take a number of steps, including researching opportunities, writing curriculum vitae, completing applications for courses and jobs, practising interviews, career counselling, attending career evenings and information days, campus visits and targeted work experience.
At Carmel College students can also become involved in Gateway. This scheme provides opportunities for students to gain work experience in fields they may be considering as a career choice.
