Nerves, strategy, and six intense rounds – Carmel’s Chess girls were ready for the challenge of the annual Auckland Girls Chess Competition held recently in Mt Eden.

It was an individual tournament of six rounds and we got to play against girls from various other schools around Auckland. For many girls, it was their first time participating in a chess tournament, so it was a new and exciting experience.

We achieved excellent results, with Yu Na Lim placing first in the Under 18 division and Natalia Gonzales placing second in the Under 16 division.

Overall, we enjoyed the competition and are looking forward to doing it again next year!
