Celebrating Chinese Language Week

Last week, our Year 7 Chinese class at Carmel College celebrated Chinese Language Week with a special cultural experience that brought tradition to life in the classroom.

To mark the occasion, beautiful traditional Qipaos (旗袍)—elegant Chinese dresses known for their graceful design—were hung around the classroom, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere. The students were excited to learn about the history and cultural significance of the Qipao, which has been a symbol of Chinese fashion and femininity for generations.

The highlight of the celebration was when our Year 7 students had the opportunity to try on the Qipaos themselves. For many, it was their first time wearing this iconic garment, and their faces lit up with joy and curiosity. The classroom was filled with laughter, admiration, and a sense of pride as students embraced this hands-on cultural experience.

This celebration not only deepened students’ appreciation for Chinese language and culture but also created lasting memories. We look forward to more opportunities to explore and celebrate the rich traditions of the Chinese-speaking world.

Happy Chinese Language Week!
