Auckland Transport has advised that CCTV monitoring is now operating on the T2 Transit Lane outside Carmel College on Shakespeare Road.
The T2 lane is designed to help move more people during the morning peak by encouraging carpooling and more efficient travel. The lane operates:
📅 Monday–Friday
⏰ 6:30am–10:00am
A short warning period is currently in place. From Monday 3 August 2026, drivers using the lane incorrectly may receive a fine.
Please take care to check the road signs before travelling and ensure you are using the lane correctly. By following the rules, we can help keep traffic moving safely around our school community.
Using the T2 Lane Correctly
In New Zealand, the legal requirement is that you may only drive in a bus or transit (T2/T3) lane for up to 50 metres before turning left, entering a driveway, or leaving the road.
Please remember:
✅ You can enter the lane up to 50 metres before your left turn.
✅ You should use the minimum distance necessary to complete the turn safely.
❌ You cannot use the lane to bypass queued traffic and then merge back into general traffic.
💲 The infringement fee for using the lane illegally is $150.
Thank you for helping keep our students, families, and wider community moving safely around Carmel College.
