As we journey through the season of Lent, our school community embraces this traditional time of reflection, prayer, and renewal. Lent invites us to quiet the noise of our busy lives and consider how we can grow closer to God and one another. At Carmel, this spiritual journey is woven into the fabric of our year through our comprehensive retreat programme, ensuring every year level has the dedicated space to reflect and reconnect.
Our Year 7 students recently gathered for their first retreat, focusing on the heart of our identity: what it means to be part of a Catholic and Mercy community. It was a beautiful introduction to our traditions. We extend our sincere thanks to Fr. Chris for celebrating Mass with us, and to the parents who joined in support. A huge “thank you” also goes to our Year 7 teachers, student leaders, and Tuakana leaders for making our newest students feel so welcome and inspired.
Meanwhile, our Year 12 students spent a day at camp exploring the theme of “The Journey.” They were challenged to reflect on their personal paths and their relationship with God. Central to their reflection was the promise of John 10:10: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” This serves as a powerful reminder that God desires a vibrant, purposeful life for every one of our young women.
Looking ahead, we are excited for our Year 9 retreats next week. This two-day programme is designed to deepen our students’ understanding of our Catholic and Mercy story. The experience will include a hīkoi to various local sites of Catholic and Mercy significance, followed by a day at school dedicated to prayer and reflection activities.
“We should be as the compass that goes round its circle without stirring from its centre. Our centre is God, from whom all our actions should spring as from their source.”
