Save Stream Clean 2025

Members of the Carmel College SAVE group helped out the Pupuke Birdsong Conservation Volunteers group in the “William Souter Reserve stream clean” last Saturday.

Community Efforts to Restore Streams

Keeping Auckland’s streams clean is vital for the environment and the community. Healthy streams support native ecosystems, prevent flooding, and create recreational opportunities for everyone. This work is especially important for increasing flood resilience, helping our communities prepare for and minimize the impact of extreme weather events like those we saw last year.

On Auckland’s North Shore, three environmental organisations—Pupuke Birdsong Project, Pest Free Kaipātiki, and Kaipātiki Project—are working together to restore and protect local waterways.

A Recent Stream Cleanup

The Pupuke Birdsong Project regularly hosts volunteer events, including planting, tree rescue, and litter cleanups, to restore streams in the Takapuna and Devonport areas.

Last Saturday the Carmel College SAVE environmental group joined a cleanup at William Souter Reserve to help clear a stream that was blocked by rubbish and weeds. This effort is crucial as it creates a healthy habitat for local birds and helps improve the overall ecosystem.

Now that the stream is improved, the Pupuke Birdsong Conservation Volunteers are preparing for the next step.
