Success at Book Battle

Last week three Carmel Year 7&8 teams competed in the 2022 Book Battle held at Northcross Intermediate. Students were required to read eight books from a range of genres before the event. All the books were great reads and two were verse novels which were really different since many of us had not read that style of writing before.

The Year 8 team of Chloe Yang, Charlotte Cullum, Holly Straka and Niva Simunac took out 1st place. Our Year 7 team came 2nd and the other Year 8 team placed 5th. There was also an overall prize which went to the school with the highest average ranking; by winning this prize we were gifted a large collection of books.

Everyone had an amazing time and the event was filled with so much laughter, fun and a lot of books. The event couldn’t have happened without the help of Book Battle’s sponsors, the awesome Harcourts Cooper and Co, as well as Scholastic Books. We would also like to thank the organisers for volunteering their time as well as our parent help and of course our coach, Miss Banfield.

For any Year 7 student who loves reading and doing fun quizzes with their peers, I would totally recommend joining the Book Battle next year. Books are full of adventure, knowledge and so much more. So keep reading because a book is a gift you can open again and again!
