Success in Round One of the Brain Bee Challenge – 2025

Last term, a group of Carmel students took part in Round 1 of the Australian-New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge. Thirty-two North Island schools took part, with 337 students completing the Round 1 competition quiz. The median score for the North Island was 65.71% (up from 62.86% in 2024 and 57.1% in 2023). This is an outstanding result and shows the students are punching above their weight.

Ten Carmel students from Year 11 have made it through to Round 2 of the competition. They are Bernie Hoyo Gibson, Nakisha Wood, Keira Cocks, Juliana Lee, Loretta Kako, Aimee Kim, Michelle Warner, Isabella Foster, Amber Lynch and Emma Chen

Round 2 of the competition will run online at school on the week of 16-20 June. These students have also been invited to spend a day on 25 June at the  Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland, where they can experience a range of exciting activities, including visits to the AMRF Learning Centre, lab tours and hearing from some leading scientists.
