Term 2 Music Department Update

It has been a busy and fun term for the Carmel Music Department, with our students participating in a wide range of exciting opportunities and performances. Here’s a wrap of the things we have been up to.

Our Chamber groups and String Ensemble kicked off the term with a Sunday afternoon concert in the Music department, providing an opportunity to showcase the progress they have made throughout the first half of the year. It also served as a valuable opportunity for our Chamber groups to perform in front of an audience and refine their programmes ahead of the NZ Chamber Music Contest, which took place in week 7, at Diocesan School for Girls. All three of our Chamber groups performed exceptionally well, demonstrating their hard work, musical growth, and dedication. Thank you to Mrs Brockelbank and Mr Lovie for their work with our Chamber groups and String Ensemble.

Our senior choir, Capriccio, sang to residents at Lady Allum Rest Home earlier this term as part of their preparation for The Big Sing Festival, which was held at the Auckland Town Hall, on Tuesday 16th June. The Big Sing is New Zealand’s annual secondary school choral festival, bringing together school choirs from across the region to perform and celebrate choral music. Capriccio proudly presented the programme they worked hard to prepare. This week Capriccio will also take part in the Senior Treble Voices Festival being held at Westlake Girls High School. Thank you to Mr Howell and Amanda Yap for their work with Capriccio.

The Carmel Orchestra had their second weekend workshop with tutors from the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. These workshops are a fantastic opportunity for our girls to learn from and be mentored by professional musicians and the progress they make during these sessions is always incredible.
