This year our HOD Music, Ms Barker started an exciting new initiative in the Music Department, to encourage more girls to learn instruments in Year 7 through our new Y7 Band Program.

The Band Program incorporates a weekly lesson with a specialist tutor, as well as a weekly band rehearsal with Ms Barker. There are 29 girls taking part this year, which is a fantastic start to growing instrumental music at Carmel! Everyone has jumped in with great enthusiasm to learn their new instruments, they are remembering to bring their instruments and music folders each week, and they have learnt how to quickly set up the room for rehearsal at the start of the lesson, and pack it up again at the end.

Ms Barker is super proud of their progress, and is so excited to hear how much the band have improved already – the rehearsals are a highlight each week.  The Year 7 Band’s debut performance will be at the Music Showcase Concert in Term 3.
