Pou Manawa

🌿 What is Pou Manawa?

Pou Manawa is Carmel College’s extension and enrichment programme, open to all students who love learning and want to go further. It is self directed, simply sign up to one or more of the opportunities.

“Pou” means pillar and “Manawa” means heart—together, Pou Manawa represents a strong and passionate centre for learning. It’s your chance to go beyond the classroom, dive into new ideas, and challenge yourself in exciting and meaningful ways.

👤 Who is it for?

Anyone with a passion for learning! Whether you’re curious, creative, or simply love exploring new things, Pou Manawa is for you. Step outside your comfort zone, discover your strengths, and grow your skills across a wide range of subjects.

Thinking about university—especially overseas? Academic competitions are a fantastic way to build confidence, showcase your talents, and strengthen future applications.

💡 Why get involved?

Research shows that extension opportunities boost confidence, improve problem-solving, and build resilience. You’ll gain valuable experience, grow your talents, and connect with others who share your love of learning.  And let’s be honest—it’s also a lot of fun!

📝 How can I get involved?

Look out for updates in your Year Level Google Classroom and on the noticeboards near C1.16 (Years 9–13) or Room 47 (Years 7–8)

There is also a Google Classroom code: o5gwe6tb. Students, parents and teachers can join to see all competitions in one place. New activities are added all the time!
