This year, our Core Mercy Value is Tika – Justice. We promote Justice when we respect the rights of others, take responsibility for our actions and work together to ensure equity for all.
As a community, we came together to begin the year with our annual Dedication Mass, during which we commissioned our student leaders and new Eucharistic Ministers, and then the following week, we gathered again as a community to mark the beginning of Lent with an Ash Wednesday liturgy. Students have been focusing on setting Lenten intentions in their Atawhai classes and starting to plan our fundraising for the Caritas Lenten Appeal, turning our personal sacrifices into tangible support for others. Specific fundraising details and links can be found on student Google Classrooms – this fundraiser will conclude with our annual Coin Trail on St Patrick’s Day 17th March.
In his 2026 Lenten Message, Pope Leo XIV invites us to a season of “Listening and Fasting.” He challenges us to “disarm our language,” refraining from hurtful words to make space for the “cry of the oppressed.” As we journey toward Easter, let us use this time to listen deeply and act justly.
