The Music Department provides wide opportunities for the development of both vocal and instrumental skills through individual tuition and performance. Many groups are available for students to participate in and through this involvement they will have the opportunity to represent the school at special events. Please discuss these possibilities with your daughter and encourage her involvement. If there is an instrument not mentioned here that interests you please do not hesitate to contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Music Tuition

To register online for Music Tuition in 2018 please click here.

The Music Department encourages students to widen their horizons by learning a musical instrument or training their voice. The discipline, team spirit and pleasure both given and received are obvious benefits from being involved in musical activities.

Carmel's musicians are able to take their skills beyond the music lesson and meet together in all manner of music groups from choirs to orchestras and chamber, jazz and Barbershop groups to rock bands. The standard of performance achieved by pupils here is evidence enough that this work is invaluable both educationally and socially.

Tuition is offered in the following instruments: voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, guitar, bass guitar and drum kit.

The HOD Music monitors and guarantees standards and any concerns should be directed to him as well as to the teacher concerned.

Group Lessons

Fees: $100 or $140:00 per year – an account is sent.

Lessons are weekly and are given on a rotational basis during school hours so that no student is absent from a particular subject on a regular basis. Unattended lessons will be charged for.

It is expected that the student will learn for a full year but in the event that tuition is terminated four weeks’ notice is required. Notification should be sent to the HOD Music and the teacher concerned.

Timetables are posted on the Music Department notice board, students can also check their times on the Music Department Site.

There may a wait list for some lessons that are over-subscribed.

As guitar lessons are always oversubscribed no itinerant guitar lessons for Year 7 students will be offered at the start of 2018. (Year 7 students can be wait listed).

(Private Individual Lessons - available in some instruments. Payment is made directly to the Teacher / Fees: $24:00-$35:00 per half hour lesson depending on the tutor.)

Regular attendance and practice is necessary to ensure progress on any instrument, and to retain a place in the scheme. Three unexplained absences from music lessons and the student’s place in the scheme will be reviewed.

Pupils require their own instruments for their lessons except for double bass and drum kit. The school has a very limited number of orchestral instruments for hire at a fee of $80.00 per year. These include, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, bassoon and flute. Information can be supplied about local firms and their hireage systems for other instruments.

Music Groups that functioned in 2017 were:

  • Orchestra
  • Jazz Band
  • Year 7 & 8 Choir
