From the PTFA

Welcome new parents, caregivers, and friends of the college!

As the name suggests, the PTFA is made up of parents and friends of the school, along with both teacher and student representatives. The aim of the PTFA is to partner with the school to support our daughters’ education, and there are two main ways we do this. Firstly, by raising funds for special projects and extra resources for the school, and secondly by fostering a sense of community, and often these two things happen together. Over the last few years, some of our popular events have been Art Fusions, an amazing display and sale of work from local artists which has been our biggest annual fundraiser; Golf Days; Quiz Nights for both parents and students; and the traditional Parent/Daughter breakfast with some excellent guest speakers. Our annual donation to the school covers things such as scholarships for school leavers, sports uniforms, and extra library books. One-off special projects include the purchase of a school van and covering the terraced area outside the gym. This year’s ideas include looking at ways we can contribute to the restoration of the old convent, to create a special new space for our students. Joining the PTFA is a great way to get involved in the school community and connect with new people. We meet monthly (usually on the first Tuesday evening), and meetings last approximately one hour. It is fairly informal and members don’t have to be involved in all aspects – you can be part of the core committee, or simply volunteer to help at a specific event. Every contribution helps and the wider the range of skills, the better!

Apologies if you attended our online AGM last Term – unfortunately we didn’t capture your contact details. We would welcome your involvement. Please email ptfa@carmel.school.nz so we can add you to our committee and supporter’s database.
