Vacancy – Accounts Assistant, Carmel College

We are seeking a permanent Accounts Assistant to join our Finance Team.  This is a permanent full time (up to 37.5 hours per week) position working school term time only.

The Accounts Assistant will report to the Business Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Special Character

  • Support the Business Manager in fostering an understanding of the College’s Special Character and charism rooted in Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy.
  • Ensure all dealings with staff, students, and parents reflect Catholic and Mercy values, maintaining confidentiality and care at all times.

Professional Leadership

Assist the Business Manager by providing professional expertise in financial matters to help achieve the school’s Strategic and Annual Goals.

Learning Community

Contribute to leadership tasks within an effective learning community focused on high standards of conduct and achievement.

Professional Environment

Support an innovative and effective professional environment.

Key Duties:

Manage the payment of all creditors in a timely manner

  • Process invoices, reimbursements, credit card expenses, and one-off payments using Xero
  • Ensure invoices are paid by their due dates
  • Process reimbursements within five working days

 Support the Business Manager with:

  • Bank receipts and payments reconciliation
  • Processing automatic payments, direct debits, and fund receipts
  • Managing the online shop
  • Monthly reporting for departments
  • Balance sheet and creditors’ account reconciliations
  • Pre-processing checks for trip invoices
  • Managing ApprovalMax

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with Xero and ApprovalMax
  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Commitment to the values of a Catholic education
  • Previous experience in a similar accounts or finance role

Hours: up to 37.5 hours per week, term time only (40 weeks per year).

The successful applicant will be required to accept, recognise and preserve the special vision character of the school and be committed to the school’s  and values.

Car parking onsite and well-being initiatives like free flu vaccinations for staff are available.  Employment conditions apply as per the Support Staff in Schools’ Collective Agreement.  The successful applicant will also be required to give consent to legal checks as required to work in a New Zealand school.

The preferred start date is Monday 31 March.
