Kotahitanga in Action in Year 11 Physical Education

Our Year 11 Physical Education students have recently been working towards an achievement standard that places a strong emphasis on kotahitanga—unity, teamwork, and working together towards a common goal.

Throughout this unit, students have explored what it truly means to function as a cohesive team. They have developed their ability to communicate effectively, support one another, and contribute positively to group success. Whether participating in practical activities or reflecting on team dynamics, students have demonstrated a growing understanding of how kotahitanga can enhance both performance and overall wellbeing.

A highlight of the unit has been the way many classes embraced the practical component with enthusiasm and creativity. Some teams even chose to design and wear team uniforms, strengthening their sense of identity and belonging. This added element not only boosted team spirit but also reinforced the importance of pride, connection, and collective effort.

It has been fantastic to see students stepping up, encouraging each other, and building strong, supportive environments. These experiences go beyond the playing field, helping students develop valuable life skills that reflect the principles of kotahitanga in everyday situations.

We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 11 students have engaged with this learning and the positive, inclusive culture they continue to create within Physical Education.
