Harbour Sport Student Coaching and Leadership Day
On Thursday 22nd May, we took 17 senior members of our Sports Council and student coaches to AUT for a student coaching and leadership day. The girls were split into two groups and worked alongside students from other schools around the way to approach fixed and growth mindsets and how they can impact players when coaching and playing sports. Thank you to Harbour Sport and AUT for the implementation of this day for our students.
“The workshop gave insight into how to approach a change with a growth mindset, which was relevant both in sport and outside of it. In the coaching section it highlighted how much the learning environment can impact athlete development and motivation”
“It was interesting learning about the growth mindsets and how a fixed mindset can happen without us even thinking much about the activity. It was also interesting hearing the difference between right encouragement and wrong and how it can impact someone’s love for sport”
Football Y7/8 North Harbour Zone Days
Last week two Y7/8 teams attended the North Harbour Football Zone Days. The Year 7 team finished 7th overall, winning a nail biting penalty shootout to claim that spot. The Year 8 finished 3rd, narrowly missing out in the semifinal but won the 3/4th place playoff to claim 3rd spot. Thank you to coaches; Lucas Kale, Nina O’Leary and Nicola O’Leary for taking these teams at their event.
