Sonia Lin and Arlene Saptaputra recently represented Carmel College at the North Island final of Round 2 of the Australian-NZ Brain Bee Challenge at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, The University of Auckland. They were the best of 514 students from 42 high schools in the North Island. They competed in both team and individual competitions. Arlene successfully made it to the final 8 in the individual competition, finishing 6th. An amazing achievement

Congratulations also to Madeleine Xiao who got through to the preliminary rounds of the Wallace National Piano Competition. You can watch Madeleine’s Performance HERE. Madeleine was one of the youngest to enter the competition this year.

Charlotte Gray was one of 30 sailors selected from all over NZ to attend the inaugural ‘BLAKE Inspire for Sailors’ programme – a six-day environmental leadership development adventure designed for emerging New Zealand sailors. Charlotte attended the programme in the first week of the July school holidays. It was a busy week packed with conservation programmes and scientific testing to sessions with leading environmentalists, sailing on Lion New Zealand to Tiritiri Matangi and a visit to Emirates Team New Zealand’s base. They learned a considerable amount about the environment and the haste with which we need to act to minimise the impact of climate change. They also learnt about the legacy of Sir Peter Blake and current restoration and volunteer projects.
