Our Junior Open debating team—Elliot Hou, Hayley Wong, Natalia Gonzales, Caitlyn Theron, Erin Walker, and Cristal Cheng—is having an outstanding season!

Undefeated in the Northern Division round robin, the team advanced to the Octo-Finals at Lynfield College. Facing a strong St Cuthbert’s team, they successfully argued against introducing a green area in the city centre, securing their place in the quarter-finals.

The quarter-finals, held at St Cuthbert’s, saw the team triumph once again—this time advocating that schools should not have the power to expel students. With this win, they have earned a spot in the semi-finals on September 1. Out of more than 130 teams in the competition, reaching the final four is a remarkable achievement.

The team has been expertly guided by student coach Angela Braganza. We wish them the very best of luck as they compete in the semi-finals!
