Winter Sports Season Survey
It’s time to tell us your thoughts on the Winter Sports Season for Term 2 and 3!!
Congratulations
Elizabeth Beckett & Emily Meale – Named in the Netball Northern Development programme from their performance over the week at the Upper North Islands tournament in September
Indigo Lythgo – Recipient of the Netball North Harbour Junior Whister Umpiring Award
Tessa Clinton – Tessa and her crew, sailing in the 420 Class, competed in the four-day U19 NZ Youth Championships regatta and won the double-handed Girls National title. This regatta also serves as the selection trials for sending the winning girls’ 420 youth team to represent New Zealand in Portugal in December. It will be the third time Tessa represents NZ at the Youth World Championships and is the first time a girl has won it three times in NZ.
Gymnastics Nationals – Four Carmel girls competed at the recent New Zealand Gymnastics Nationals, representing North Harbour and competed with the following highlights:
- Gerayn Chow was the Step 6 Unders Vault Champion, and qualified for the 2nd Day All-Around finals, where she finished 5th AA
- Isla McQueen was 9th in Step 5 Unders Vault
- Lydia Whittaker was 10th in Step 6 Unders Vault
- Evie Self qualified for the Step 8 Unders Floor Finals, where she finished 16th
Sara Woods – Skateboarding – Competed at Rumble on the Reef in Queensland and placed 3rd in Under 16 girls. This trip was part of a scholarship awarded to the skateboarding High Performance programme from IOC Olympic Solidarity and the NZOC, designed to support Youth Olympic Games development. Riders were selected for this trip based on results from the 2025 Street National Championships, while also taking into account the age eligibility rules for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
U16 Waterpolo – Bridget Mihaljevich and Sophia Railton – gold medal winners at the Division 1 U16 Waterpolo Nationals in the holidays
Kate Bolland, Charlie Gerdin, Ana Berry, Maddy Meys, Aimee McIntosh, Sophie Burrows & Jessie Wescott, plus Carmel Old girl Kate Bell-Booth (Coach) – Placed 7th in the U16 Division 2 Waterpolo Nationals
Basketball Nationals – Very proud of our Carmel Basketball team and their performance at the 2025 New Zealand Basketball Secondary Schools Nationals. 2 wins, 6 losses and their final 4 cross-over games were all tough battles within 12 points each game to finish 16th overall. For the whole team experiencing this national tournament for the first time and Carmel’s first showing since 2019, they performed to a high level day in and day out. Carmel Basketball now farewells the five Wāhine Toa Y13 players Lily Farman, Ruby Railton, Millie Lloyd, Annie Gaylard and Imogen O’Rourke. You are leaving, having given so much to Carmel Basketball and true role models within the sport to our younger players. Thank you to coach Chris Vaughan, assistant coach Greg Brockbank and manager Beth Railton for being with the team over these past 7 days, plus the team of family support behind these girls.
Athena Macmac – New Zealand Ice Figure Skating National Championship. Juvenile Girls 1st Place National Champion.
