This term, a group of creative and dedicated students — Iynah Jung, Annie Liu, Katie McDowall, and Atasha Juanillo — took part in the INTERFACE Student Minecraft Competition 2025, creating an inspiring project based on the theme Sustainable Seas. Using Minecraft as their platform, the team built a detailed and imaginative sustainable town that reflected their learning, teamwork, and creativity.
Their incredible effort paid off — Team Project Ocean placed second in the Secondary Category!
The organisers congratulated the students, saying:
“Thanks for encouraging your students to enter this year’s INTERFACE Student Minecraft Competition 2025. I’m delighted to tell you that the team of Iynah Jung, Annie Liu, Katie McDowall, and Atasha Juanillo placed second in the Secondary Category. Please let them know and pass on my congratulations. It was an excellent entry. They should be very proud of this achievement.”
Team member Iynah reflected, “This project wouldn’t have been possible without all our team members. The dedication we put into this work can’t even be put into words. The most important thing at the end was the knowledge we gained from a topic we normally wouldn’t have come across. We had a lot of fun.”
Annie added, “I enjoyed working together as a team and had a lot of fun just building and talking to my friends. The goal wasn’t about who had the best build, but who understood the contents correctly and informed others about what’s going on in the real world.”
For Atasha, the highlight was simple: “I enjoyed building our sustainable town because I got to do it with my friends.”
Katie shared, “I really enjoyed the opportunity to participate in this sustainability project because I got to spend it with my friends and create bonded memories while showing off my skills and learning more about the topic.”
The team spent the first few days discussing ideas, researching, and planning how they could best represent Sustainable Seas. They explored different aspects of effectiveness and innovation, carefully selecting which facts to include and adding imaginative features that enhanced their final build. Their creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm led to a project they were truly proud of — one that showcased sustainability, friendship, and a passion for learning.
“Overall, it was a great experience,” the team shared. “We hope more groups will participate next year and have great fun building in Minecraft!”
