Creativity, Teamwork and Laughter: Activities Week at Carmel College

Activities Week at Carmel College last week saw students bursting with energy, curiosity, and hands-on learning as they stepped out of the classroom and into a series of exciting challenges. Whether they were off-site at school camp, on wellbeing or RE days or onsite involved in new acitivities fun was had by all.

One of the highlights for our Year 7 and 8 students was the Marshmallow Challenge (feature images) — a fun but deceptively tricky task that requires teams to build the tallest free-standing tower possible using only spaghetti, tape, and string, strong enough to support a marshmallow on top. The tallest structure from Monday’s sessions stood at an amazing 86cm, earning plenty of celebration from both students and teachers.

Year 9 Activity Week has been a great success for the Commerce Department, with the girls taking part in an energetic and creative newspaper-dress fashion show. Working with limited resources, students designed and constructed their own outfits using natural, human, and capital inputs. The room was filled with excitement as groups transformed simple materials into impressive creations, showcasing fantastic teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity. Throughout the process, students deepened their understanding of key Commerce concepts by experiencing first-hand how different types of resources are used in production. It was a fun, memorable, and highly rewarding learning experience for everyone involved!

Activities Week continues to be a wonderful opportunity for students to learn through doing, build new friendships, and challenge themselves in fresh and engaging ways.
