Year 9 Cubist Sculpture Heads

Year 9 Art students explored the style of Cubism, beginning with an introduction to key Cubist paintings and Picasso’s early sculptural constructions. They practised detailed drawings of facial features and hair, developing their understanding of proportion, structure and form. These drawings were then transformed into imaginative cardboard Cubist constructions, where students combined geometric shapes, layered planes and intentional voids to reassemble the human face in a new and inventive way. The students have strengthened not only their observational and drawing skills but also their confidence in constructing three-dimensional artworks.
