Last week our Year 9 students blasted off into a hands-on Astronomy STEM experience. They began by learning about NASA’s ambitious Artemis mission, which aims to return humans to the Moon. Inspired by this real-world challenge, students then designed and tested their own lunar landers—innovative creations engineered to touch down safely on the lunar surface.
The week also saw students diving into the science behind the Moon’s phases, complete with deliciously creative Oreo cookie models. They explored how lunar craters form, investigating how the size, mass, and speed of impactors shape the Moon’s dramatic landscape.
To finish, students researched a constellation of their choice and presented their findings to the class. From identifying key stars to discovering how different cultures interpreted the night sky, the girls brought these celestial stories to life.
It was a fantastic week of curiosity, creativity, and cosmic discovery!
