Snowboarding Auckland Champs 

River Thompson, competed in College Sport Auckland Snowboard Championships. 

  • 1st place in Race (Junior Girls)
  • 2nd place in Slopestyle (Junior Girls)
  • 3rd overall in Race
  • 4th overall in Slopestyle

 

Gymnastics Auckland Champs

Ava Samuels, Tara Young and Lydia Whittaker competed in College Sport Auckland Gymnastics Championships. 

  • Ava Samuels – 1st All Round Gymnast in Step 10 
  • Tara Young – 1st All Round Gymnast in Step 5

 

Mercy Cup Y9/10 Tournament 

The annual Mercy Cup tournament between St Mary’s College and McAuley High School was held this week with a trip out to Otahahu for the day. Our Y 9/10 students competed against the schools in Ki O Rahi, Netball and Basketball and placed 2nd overall, with each school winning a sporting code, the final result coming down to the overall points difference between the three schools. 

Congratulations to the Netball and Ki O Rahi team who were awarded Best Sportsmanship in their codes; Brooke Bates named Most Valuable Basketball defender; Maria Hale named Most Valuable Netball attacking player, and Amaia Warren named Most Valuable Netball defender. 

 

Silver Ferns Netball Team Announcement  

Carmel was offered a wonderful opportunity to take 10 Year 7/8 students to attend the official naming of the Silver Ferns netball team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. With such a large number of students to choose from.  The lucky 10 students were selected as recognition for their recent participation and effort in trialling for the Player Development Programme (PDP) at Netball North Harbour. 

 

Rock Climbing Y7/8 Zone Day 

Last Wednesday, we took three girls to Northern Rocks to compete in our first Rock Climbing Zone Day. The girls were given two hours to complete as many climbs as possible and earn points for each successful climb. We are excited to have introduced a new sporting opportunity for our girls.

 

Waterpolo Y7/8 Winterfest Tournament  

Two Carmel Y7/8 Waterpolo teams competed in the WPNZ Winterfest last week, their first tournament together this year. Thank you to the coaches and managers of each time, your support is greatly appreciated. The solid 4 days of constant gameplay saw the teams achieve some great results and gain huge improvements along the way. 

  • Carmel Blue – 11th in B Grade
  • Carmel White – 10th in C Grade 

 

Auckland Squash Junior Open Tournament 

Yila van Loggerenberg won the U17 girls grade and placed 2nd in the U19 grade at this Auckland Squash event.

Hockey Skill Sessions for Y5/6 Students

Our Hockey 1st Xl players are running two skill sessions at Carmel College in the upcoming school Holidays, as both a fundraiser for their September tournament and also to give the girls who may be coming to Carmel in Y7 a further taster of hockey and our school. 

  • Tuesday 7th July | 10am – 12pm 
  • Wednesday 8th July | 10am – 12pm 
  • Players can attend one or both sessions
  • $20 per session and held on the Carmel turfed courts

Volleyball Skill Sessions for Y7/8 Students

Open to all students in Y7/8 to get a taster of volleyball and skill development 

  • Tuesday 7th July | 10am – 12pm & 1pm – 3pm 
  • Wednesday 8th July | 10am – 12pm & 1pm – 3pm 
  • Players can attend one or more sessions
  • $25 per session and held in the Carmel Gym
